How to Cancel the Paid plan on Essential Loyalty App
If you ever decide to cancel or downgrade your Loyalty app plan, the process is simple and fully managed through Shopify. Below we’ll explain how cancellation and downgrades work, when changes take effect, how prorated charges or credits are applied, and what happens to your loyalty program afterward.
📌 Important Things to Know Before You Cancel or Downgrade
- Plan cancellations and downgrades can be done directly from the app’s Billing section
- Canceling or downgrading does not trigger extra or hidden charges
- Prorated charges or credits are calculated automatically by Shopify
- All billing adjustments appear directly on your Shopify invoice
Let’s walk through everything step by step 👇
1️⃣ How to Cancel Your Paid Plan
You can cancel your paid plan at any time directly from the Loyalty app "Billing" section:
To cancel your plan:
- Open the Loyalty app
- Go to the Billing section
- Select Cancel subscription
All subscription and billing changes are handled by Shopify, so no additional steps are required once the cancellation is completed.
⚠️ Please note:
Uninstalling the app will also automatically cancel any active plan.
2️⃣ How to Downgrade Your Plan
If you prefer to downgrade to a lower plan instead of fully canceling, you can do this at any time.
To downgrade your plan:
- Open the Loyalty app
- Go to the Billing section
-
Select the lower plan you want to switch to
Once selected, your subscription is updated immediately.
📌 Important:
Downgrading follows Shopify’s standard billing rules. If you downgrade mid-billing cycle, Shopify automatically applies prorated charges or credits based on how long each plan was active.
3️⃣ When Does the Cancellation or Downgrade Take Effect?
Plan changes take effect immediately.
- If you cancel, your loyalty program is turned off right away.
-
If you downgrade, the new plan limits apply immediately.
📌 Note: If you downgrade to the Free plan and your order count is already above 250 for the month, the loyalty program will be paused until the next billing cycle. If you downgrade between paid plans and your order count exceeds the new plan's limit, your plan may be automatically upgraded again.
4️⃣ What Happens When You Reach Your Monthly Order Limit?
The behavior when you reach your monthly order limit depends on your current plan:
Free plan- When the 250 monthly order limit is reached, the loyalty program is automatically paused.
- Customers will no longer see points, rewards, or VIP benefits.
- The program is NOT auto-upgraded — to resume, you need to manually upgrade to a paid plan from the Billing section.
- Starter plan (500 orders reached) → automatically upgrades to Essential ($24/month)
- Essential plan (1500 orders reached) → automatically upgrades to Growth ($79/month)
- Growth plan has no order limit.
Only loyalty program orders count toward your limit — these are referral orders and returning customer orders. Standard first-time orders are not counted.
If you'd prefer not to stay on the upgraded plan, you can downgrade or cancel at any time from the app's Billing section. Shopify will apply prorated credits for any unused time.
5️⃣ How Prorated Charges and Credits Are Applied
When you cancel or downgrade your plan, Shopify automatically calculates billing adjustments:
- Prorated charges or credits are calculated based on unused days in your billing cycle
- Adjustments appear directly on your Shopify bill
-
No action is required from your side
If you downgrade multiple times in one billing cycle, Shopify may apply multiple smaller prorations, each reflecting the time spent on each plan.
6️⃣ What Happens After Cancellation?
After canceling your paid plan:
- Your loyalty app plan is changed to "Free plan"
- You lose access to premium features
- Your program will be turned off and customers will lose access to their points, rewards and VIP statuses.
-
No further charges are applied unless you reactivate a paid plan
You can reactivate a plan at any time.
