How to Set Up a Timer in a Different Time Zone 🌍

If you need your countdown timer to follow a different time zone than your current location, that’s completely possible. By default, the app uses your device’s local time zone, so when creating timers for another region, you’ll need to adjust your setup accordingly. Below are the available methods and best practices.

Why Time Zone Matters ⏱️

The timer automatically reads the time zone from the device you’re using during setup. This means:

  • If you’re in Europe and create a timer for a U.S. campaign, it will initially follow European time.
  • Without adjustment, the timer may start or end earlier or later than intended for your target audience.

Option 1 — Change Your Device Time Zone Before Setup 💻

You can temporarily change your computer’s time zone to match the target region before creating the timer. The app will then use those settings when you configure it.

Example (MacOS):

  1. Go to System Settings → General → Date & Time
  2. Disable automatic time zone detection
  3. Select the target city/time zone (e.g., Los Angeles)
  4. Create and save your timer in the app

After setup, you can safely return your device to your original time zone.

Option 2 — Manually Adjust the Time Difference ➕➖

Instead of changing device settings, you can manually calculate the difference between your time zone and the target one.

How it works:

  • If your target time zone is 1 hour ahead, add 1 hour to both start and end times
  • If it’s 3 hours behind, subtract 3 hours from both times

This ensures that the timer displays correctly for visitors in the target region.

Using Geolocation Targeting 🌐

The app also supports geolocation targeting, which allows you to show timers only to visitors from specific countries or regions.

Important:

When using geolocation targeting:

  • The timer still follows the time you set during configuration
  • You must calculate the time difference based on the visitor’s location

For example:

If you create a timer while in Germany but show it only to visitors in New York, you need to adjust the timer so it aligns with New York time.

Quick Tips for Accurate Timers ✅

  • Always double-check the time difference before publishing
  • Test the timer using a VPN or device set to the target region
  • Preview the timer on your live store after publishing
