Managing and Publishing Your Rules on Essential Checkout
The app's home page lists every rule you've built and is where you publish, pause, edit, and organize them. This article covers the rules list and the everyday actions on it.
Read the rules list

The rules list — status, type, action, and views
Each rule is a row with these columns:
- Title — the rule's name (always shown); click it to open the rule.
- Status — Active (live at checkout) or Inactive (not applied).
- Type — the customization type, with its icon.
- Action — a short summary of what the rule does (e.g. Hide, Rename, Block checkout).
- Views — how often the rule has been evaluated.
Use the columns button on the right of the toolbar to show or hide the optional columns.
Filter and search
- The status tabs — All, Active, Inactive — narrow the list to rules in that state.
- The Search box filters by rule title.
- Click a column header to sort by it.
Publish or unpublish
A rule affects checkout only while it's Active. There are two ways to change that:
- From the rule — open it, set Status to Active or Inactive in the right-hand panel, and click Save.
- In bulk — select one or more rows in the list, then choose Publish or Unpublish from the bulk actions.
Publishing writes the rule to your checkout; unpublishing removes it but keeps the rule so you can turn it back on later.
Watch out: an Active validation rule needs at least one condition. If publishing fails, open the rule and check the message the app shows — it points to whatever needs completing.
Edit, rename, and delete
Open a rule to edit it. In the top bar:
- Rename — change the rule's name.
- Delete — remove the rule. You'll be asked to confirm: "This will permanently delete this rule and remove it from your store. This action cannot be undone."
You can also Delete selected rules in bulk from the list.
Watch out: deleting is permanent and also removes the rule from checkout. To just stop a rule temporarily, set it Inactive instead.
Change a rule's type
You can switch a rule's customization type from the right-hand panel (the pencil icon next to the type) — but only while the rule is Inactive. While a rule is published the control is locked, with the tooltip "Unpublish this function to change its customization type."
To change type: set Status to Inactive, Save, then change the type. Switching keeps any conditions the new type still supports and resets the action.
Save and discard
Whenever you have unsaved changes, a save bar appears at the top of the builder. Click Save to apply them, or Discard to roll back to the last saved version. Navigating away is blocked until you resolve the save bar.
