Show the Preorder and Notify Me buttons across your store (Essential Preorder app)
By default, the Preorder button and the Notify me (Back in Stock) button only show on the product page. This article explains how to turn them on in other places: collection pages, the homepage, search results, featured product sections, and quick buy modals. It also explains what these placement settings can and can't do.
This is for you if the button works on your product page but is missing from a collection grid, a homepage featured section, or a quick view popup.
Show the Preorder button in more places
- Open the Essential Preorder app.
- Go to Preorder settings.
- Find Show preorder button in:
- Turn on any of the following: Product pages, Product lists in collection, homepage and search pages, Featured products, Quick buy modals.
- Save your changes, then refresh your storefront (a hard refresh or a private browsing window) to confirm the button appears.
Showing the Preorder button in Quick buy modals requires the Lite plan or higher. If you're on a lower plan you'll see Upgrade to Lite next to this option.

Where the Preorder badge shows (this is separate from the button)
The Show preorder badge toggle controls a small badge, not the buy button. Its placement is fixed: it is "shown on image in product page, and all product lists." You can't move the badge placement yourself. If you want it repositioned (for example to the top left of the image) or restyled, go to Can't see badge? or use Reach out in the Badge section to contact support directly about customising it.
Show the Notify me (Back in Stock) button in more places
- Open the Essential Preorder app.
- Go to Back in stock settings.
- Find the section titled Show Back in Stock button on, under Placements.
- Turn on any of: Product pages, Featured products (adds the Back in Stock button on featured products in homepage, collection and search pages), Product lists in collection, homepage and search pages, Quick buy modals.
- Save and refresh your storefront to check.
For out-of-stock products, the Back in Stock button either replaces the Sold out button or is added below it, depending on the placement.
Two things gate the Back in Stock placements. Quick buy modals needs the Lite plan or higher. Everything beyond Product pages also has to be switched on for your shop by our team, because the button has to be fitted to your theme before it will render. If the campaign's Button tab shows "Collection, home page, featured products, quick buy modals" with Contact support to enable next to it, that is what is happening: ticking the boxes in settings is not enough on its own. Message support and ask them to enable the Back in Stock button outside product pages for your theme.

Show both buttons together on the same product
If a product sits in both a Preorder campaign and a Back in Stock campaign at the same time, you decide which button (or both) shows:
- Open your Back in stock campaign.
- Go to the Back in stock products tab.
- Under If a product is in preorder and back in stock campaigns:, choose Show Notify me and preorder buttons together or Show only preorder.

What these settings can't do
Placements are limited to the options listed above for each button. There's no setting to place either form on an arbitrary page, in a custom homepage section builder block, in the sticky Add to Cart bar, or in the cart or checkout. If you need the button in one of those spots, the nearest workaround is asking support whether a one-off code adjustment is possible for your specific theme file. This isn't a toggle in the app.
If your theme's quick view or quick shop popup is custom-built rather than Shopify's standard quick buy modal, the app may not detect it even with Quick buy modals turned on. In that case, contact support and share a link to a product on your live store so they can check whether a custom selector can be added for your theme.
Troubleshooting, most common causes first
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Button shows on product page only | The extra placement toggles are off | Turn on the relevant options under Show preorder button in: or Show Back in Stock button on, then refresh the storefront |
| Button shows on collection page but not on the homepage (or vice versa) | Your theme uses a different template or section for that page, and Featured products is a separate toggle from Product lists in collection, homepage and search pages | Make sure both relevant placements are turned on; if one still doesn't show, contact support with the page URL |
| Button missing from a quick view/quick shop popup | Either Quick buy modals needs a plan upgrade, or the placement is not yet enabled for your theme, or the popup is a custom theme build the app cannot detect | Check your plan; if you're on Lite or higher and it still doesn't show, contact support with your theme name |
| Button missing on one collection but present on another | The store uses more than one collection template (for example a bundles template vs. a standard one) | Ask support to check whether the alternate template needs a separate adjustment |
| Button text or box looks oversized on mobile collection pages | Theme CSS for buttons in tight grid cards conflicts with the app's button styling | Contact support with a screenshot from your phone so they can check your theme's CSS |
| Badge doesn't appear where expected | The badge is separate from the button and only shows on the product image and product lists | Check Show preorder badge is on; for repositioning, use Reach out to contact support |
After turning on any placement, always refresh the storefront page (or open it in a private/incognito window) before assuming it isn't working. Cached pages often still show the old layout.
Still stuck?
If you've turned on the right placements, upgraded if needed, and refreshed the page but the button still doesn't appear, contact support with a link to the specific product or collection page and a short description of where you expect the button to show. This is usually enough for them to tell you whether it's a settings issue or a theme-specific fix.
