Widget Wording, Translations and the Subscription Details Tooltip (Essential Subscriptions app)
Everything customers read on the subscription widget can be changed, and translated if you sell in more than one language. It all lives in the campaign, on the Widget tab.
Change the Wording
Open Subscription campaigns, open your campaign, and go to the Widget tab. The cards there hold every piece of customer-facing text.
| Card | What you can change |
|---|---|
| Text above the widget | The heading above the options, for example Purchase options |
| Purchase options | Each option's name, its highlight banner, its badge, its description, and whether the crossed-out price shows |
| Subscription option and Delivery options & badges | In the Grouped layout: the heading over the grouped box, the label above the frequencies, and each frequency's label |
| One-time purchase | The one-time option's name, or its link text |
| Subscription details tooltip | The label next to the small (i) icon under the widget |
Badge and highlight text accept {price}, {comparePrice} and {discount}. Descriptions accept more, including {cadence}, {delivery_cadence}, {min_cycles} and {max_cycles}. Click the {} button next to a field to see the list for that field and insert one.
The Subscription Details Tooltip
Under the widget there is a small (i) icon with a label. Hovering it explains the plan: how often the customer is charged, when they can cancel, and so on. The text is built from the plan itself, so it stays correct when you change the schedule.
To change the label, edit Tooltip text in the Subscription details tooltip card. Leave it empty and the label disappears, leaving only the icon.
To remove the icon and tooltip completely, open the Custom CSS card on the same tab and add:
.essub-tooltip {
display: none !important;
}
Translate the Widget
The Translations card appears on the Widget tab when your store has more than one published language. If you only sell in one language you will not see it.
- Click Add translation and pick a language.
- Fill in the fields. The original text sits on the left, your translation on the right.
- Click Done, then Save on the campaign.
You can translate the widget heading, option names, highlight and badge text, descriptions, the frequency labels, the tooltip label, and the sentences inside the tooltip, including the words for day, week, month and year.
The storefront shows the translation when the customer browses your store in that language.
Note: Translations are not length-checked. Very long translated text can wrap awkwardly in the widget, so preview each language on a product page.
The "Recurring purchase" Notice Under the Buy Button
Some themes show a line about a recurring or deferred purchase and a cancellation policy under the buy buttons. That text is Shopify's, not this app's. It appears on any product with a subscription attached.
To reword it, go to Online Store, Themes, then the ... menu, and choose Edit default theme content. Search for "recurring" or "cancellation" and edit the entries. Some checkout wording is fixed by Shopify and cannot be edited.
The Customer Portal Language
The subscription management page in the customer account is in English, apart from the cancellation and pause survey text, which you translate yourself. See Cancellation and Pause Surveys with Retention Offers.
Dates and prices in the portal do follow the customer's language and currency.
The Preview Price Is an Example
The preview beside the campaign editor uses a sample price, not your product's price. When a campaign covers products at different prices there is no single price to show. Your live product pages use each product's real price. If the preview and your storefront disagree on price, the storefront is right.
