Activity log: why “Continue selling when out of stock” changed (Essential Preorder app)

This article explains the Activity log page, which records every time the app switched Shopify’s “Continue selling when out of stock” on or off for a product in a preorder campaign, and why. It is for shop owners who found a product sold out that should be on preorder, or on preorder when it should be sold out, and want to know what happened.

How the setting itself works is in Shopify “Continue selling when out of stock” and Essential Preorder.

Where it is

Open Home in the app and click Activity log at the bottom of the page.

What each column means

Column Meaning
Product The product and variant. Product no longer in a campaign means it has since been removed.
Continue selling On or Off: the value the setting was changed to.
Reason Why the app made the change. See the list below.
Changed by You when a change you made in the app caused it (saving a campaign, clicking Resync). App when the app acted on its own (inventory changed, a scheduled check).
Campaign The campaign that governs the product. Deleted campaign or Not recorded for older entries.
Date (UTC) When it happened, in UTC.

Type a product name in Search by product name to narrow the list.

Reasons

  • Inventory changed: stock moved across zero or across your stop-selling limit, so the setting followed the campaign’s rule (Always, When out of stock, When in stock).
  • Order placed: a purchase changed the stock level and the setting followed.
  • Scheduled check: the app’s periodic re-check found the setting out of line and corrected it.
  • Campaign published, Campaign updated, Campaign saved: you published or saved a campaign and its products were brought in line.
  • Campaign unpublished: you unpublished a campaign, or the Free plan limit unpublished it, and the setting was turned off for its products.
  • Campaign deleted: you deleted a campaign and chose to turn the setting off.
  • Removed from campaign: a product was taken out of a campaign.
  • Manual resync: you clicked Resync or Turn ON/OFF now once on the campaign.
  • Other: a change made for another reason.

What is not in the log

  • Changes you make directly in Shopify’s product page. The app only logs its own changes.
  • Products in campaigns set to Manual, unless a stop-selling limit was applied. In Manual mode the app leaves the setting alone.

Reading a common case

A product shows Sold out although it is in a live campaign. Search for it in the log. If the last row is Off with reason Campaign unpublished, the campaign was unpublished, often by the Free plan limit. If there is no recent row at all, the setting was probably changed in Shopify by hand, or the product is in more than one campaign and another campaign’s rule applies. Click Resync on the campaign to put it right.
