Why do my changes to the header or footer show in both versions? (Essential CRO Split AB Testing app)

In Shopify, only the sections listed under Template in the theme editor belong to a template. The Header, Footer and Theme settings are shared by every template in the same theme.

So in a Template test, editing the header in version B also changes it in version A and on your live store.

  • To test the header, footer, navigation, announcement bar or theme settings, use a Theme test. Duplicate your published theme in Online Store → Themes, make your changes in the copy without publishing it, and pick it as version B.
  • To test something inside the page, like a banner, a section or the layout, a Template test is fine. Only edit the sections under Template.

📌 Product descriptions and product images are product data, not template data. Changing them in Shopify → Products changes them for both versions.
