Discount Not Applied: Main Reasons and Solutions
If a discount from the Upsell Offer is not being applied, it may be due to one of the following reasons.
Below are the main causes and their respective solutions to help you resolve the issue:
Upsell Offer Type and Logic
There are two types of Upsell Offers, and each follows a different discount logic:
• Cross-Sell Type:
This type does not require the trigger item to be in the cart for the discount to be applied.
• Frequently Bought Together Type:
This type does require the trigger item to be present in the cart for the discount to be applied.(You can select this type on the “Content” tab of Product Upsell in the app.)
Ensure you understand which Upsell Offer type you are using and confirm that the trigger item is added to the cart if you are using the Frequently Bought Together type.
Discount Was Removed or Unpublished
If the discount was removed or unpublished from Shopify Admin, it will no longer apply through the Upsell Offer. For example, if you deleted or unpublished a discount named “Discount” from Shopify Admin, it will not work with our application.
To fix this:
• Re-publish the discount in your Shopify Admin.
• If you have deleted the discount, simply re-publish your Upsell Offer from our application. This will automatically recreate the required discount on your Shopify Admin.
You are exceeding the Shopify Discount Data Limit
If you publish too many Upsell Offers, you may reach Shopify’s discount data limit (the amount of metafield data allowed). This limit is sometimes hit at around 50 Offers, but it can be lower if your Upsells use many custom discounts on specific products, since those take up more data. Using general discounts - such as a fixed discount of 10% off for all products - allows you to have more Upsell Offers, because they use less discount data.
To fix this:
- Favor the same fixed discount applied across offers to support more Upsell Offers before reaching Shopify’s limit.
- If you receive a “Discount limit reached” warning, unpublish or simplify some older offers to restore the ability to create new Upsells with a working discount.
