Turn Off Selling Plans for a Preorder Campaign
Some stores can’t use selling plans (also called purchase options) because of gateway limits, market setups (managed markets don't support preorders), or other app conflicts. To help, Essential Preorder lets you turn off selling plans per campaign.
This keeps your preorder button working, but it changes which features are available.
What turning selling plans enables
When you disable selling plans, you can:
- Run preorder campaigns without selling plan conflicts.
- Use payment methods that don’t support selling plans, not only Shopify Payments or PayPal.
- Keep core preorder logic, like “show preorder when out of stock.”
- Continue using order tags. The app tags preorder orders Essential Preorder, plus any custom campaign tags you add.
What turning selling plans disables
Features that rely on Shopify’s Selling Plan API are not available:
- Partial payments for preorders.
- Preorder discounts created in the app. Use Shopify’s native discounts instead.
- Preorder fulfillment controls such as On hold or Scheduled at order creation.
You’ll see related controls hidden or greyed out in the UI when selling plans are off.
When this is useful
- Your payment gateway doesn’t support selling plans and blocks checkout.
- You need a quick compatibility fix with a market setup or another app that removes or conflicts with selling plans.
- You want a simple preorder flow without partial payments or special fulfillment states.
How to turn off selling plans
- Open Essential Preorder in Shopify.
- Go to Campaigns and open the campaign you want to edit.
- Scroll to Advanced settings at the bottom.
- Find Use selling plans (purchase options) and uncheck it.
- Click Save.
Tip: This is a per-campaign setting, so you can use selling plans where you need advanced features, and turn them off where you need broader payment or compatibility.
