How to Cancel the Paid Plan on Essential Upsell & Cross Sell App

If you ever decide to cancel your paid plan, the process is simple and fully managed through Shopify. Below we’ll explain how cancellation works, when it takes effect, how credits are calculated, and what access you’ll keep.

📌 Important Things to Know Before You Cancel

  • Plan cancellations and downgrades can be done directly from the app admin panel or the Pricing Plans section
  • Cancelling or downgrading your plan does not trigger extra charges
  • Any unused time is converted into Shopify app credits automatically

Let’s walk through everything step by step 👇

1️⃣ How to Cancel Your Paid Plan

You can cancel your paid plan by going to Essential Upsell → Pricing plans inside the app and managing your subscription.

All billing and subscription changes are handled by Shopify, so no additional action is required once the cancellation is made.

⚠ Please note that uninstalling the app will also automatically cancel any plan that is currently active.

2️⃣ How to Downgrade Your Plan

If you prefer to downgrade your plan instead of fully cancelling it, you can do it at any time.

To downgrade your plan:

  • Open the application (Essential Upsell)
  • Go to Pricing plans from the left-hand side menu
  • Select the wanted downgraded plan

Once selected, the paid subscription will be adjusted and your plan will be downgraded accordingly.

📌 Downgrading the plan follows the same Shopify billing rules as cancellation and does not trigger extra charges. The app is usage-based, and if you exceeded the additional revenue threshold for a higher paid plan tier, you will be downgraded from the next billing cycle.

3️⃣ When Does the Cancellation Take Effect?

When you cancel your plan, the cancellation is processed immediately

📌 The app is usage-based, and if you exceeded the additional revenue threshold for a higher paid plan tier, your plan will be a free plan from the next billing cycle.

4️⃣ What If You’ve Exceeded Your Plan Usage?

Even if you’ve already exceeded the usage limits of your current plan:

  • The cancellation or downgrade will be processed from the next billing cycle, but you will not be charged beyond your current period.
  • You can still cancel or downgrade without any issues
  • No additional charges will be applied beyond your current billing period

5️⃣ How App Credits Are Calculated and Applied

When you cancel or manually downgrade your plan, Shopify calculates how many unused days remain in your current billing cycle and issues a proration credit that reduces your current Shopify Bill accordingly.

  • Credits appear directly on your Shopify bill.
  • They are automatically applied to offset Essential Upsell charges to reflect a cancellation or a downgrade.
  • No further action is required from your side.

If you downgrade multiple times (for example, from a higher plan to a lower one and then to Free), Shopify may apply multiple smaller credits, one for each change, calculated based on the unused days of each plan.

6️⃣ What Happens After Cancellation?

After your current billing cycle ends:

  • Higher tier paid plan features will no longer be available
  • You can continue using free features and have Upsell Offers published
  • No further charges will be applied unless you exceed the paid plan tier threshold (our app is usage-based).

✅ Final Summary

Cancelling your Essential Upsell & Cross Sell plan:

  • Can be done via Essential Upsell → Pricing plans or Shopify Admin by uninstalling the app
  • Unused time is converted into automatic prorate Shopify credits, which are applied to your account either immediately or in the next billing cycle if the usage limits have been exceeded.
  • Does not result in extra charges
  • Still allows access to free features after cancellation
