Cart Drawer: Different Spend Tier Thresholds and Rewards Per Market
This article explains how to set different spend tier thresholds and rewards for different Shopify Markets, and how currency conversion works when you don't customize a market.
Before you start
Markets must exist in Shopify before you can configure them in Essential Cart Drawer. If the country or region you want isn't listed as a market yet, create it first.
- Go to Settings > Markets in Shopify admin.
- Create the market for the country or countries you want to target.
Essential Cart Drawer reads markets from Shopify. It cannot create markets for you.
Set up market-specific spend tiers
- Open Essential Cart Drawer and go to Spend Tiers.
- Find the market you want to customize and click it next to its name.
- Choose one of the two options described below.
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Use default market tiers | The market inherits the thresholds and rewards from your primary (default) market. Monetary values are converted to the buyer's presentment currency automatically. |
| Use specific settings for this market | You set independent thresholds and rewards for this market. These do not update when you change the default market's tiers. |
Example: a separate threshold for New Zealand
- Create New Zealand as a market in Shopify admin if it doesn't exist yet.
- In Spend Tiers, click New Zealand.
- Choose 'Use specific settings for this market'.
- Set your own Tier 1 threshold and reward in New Zealand's currency.
How currency conversion works
If you leave a market on 'Use default market tiers', the app converts the default market's threshold into that market's presentment currency using foreign exchange rates. You don't need to enter a separate number for every currency if the same threshold logic applies everywhere.
Conversion only applies to markets left on default settings. A market using specific settings uses the exact number you enter, with no conversion applied.
Limit free shipping to specific markets
You can give free shipping to one market and leave it out of another.
- Open the market that should get free shipping.
- Choose 'Use specific settings for this market'.
- Add a spend tier with the free shipping reward and set its threshold.
To stop a market from showing a free shipping bar, don't add a free shipping tier for that market. If it's on default settings and the default market has free shipping, switch it to 'Use specific settings for this market' and build tiers without a free shipping reward.
What can't be set per market
| Feature | Per-market support |
|---|---|
| Spend tier thresholds and rewards | Yes |
| Announcement bar text | No. Only varies by language or currency, through Translations. |
| Upsell offers | No. The same upsell configuration shows in every market. |
Limitations
- Spend tiers work by Shopify Market or country, not by individual US states or other sub-regions. You cannot give one state a different threshold than the rest of its country.
- Islands or sub-regions within a country market share that market's tier settings. They cannot be split out on their own.
- Discount eligibility by region is controlled in Shopify Admin > Discounts, not in Essential Cart Drawer. If a discount code should only work in certain regions, set that in Shopify's discount settings.
- The app has no geolocation feature to hide the entire cart drawer by country. Market-based settings only affect spend tiers, not the drawer's visibility.
If you need free shipping restricted to specific US states, that isn't possible with spend tiers. Spend tiers only recognize markets and countries.
