Cart Drawer Analytics: What Every Metric Means
The Analytics page shows what Essential Cart Drawer does for your store: how many carts the drawer serves, how many become orders, and how much extra revenue each feature brings in.
Open it from Apps → Essential Cart Drawer → Analytics. This article explains every metric and how it's calculated.
What these numbers cover
Analytics counts what the cart drawer was part of. A cart is included from the moment the drawer serves it — the customer opened the drawer, or started checkout from it.
So every figure here is something the app influenced, which is what makes them useful for decisions. It's also why the totals are smaller than your store-wide Shopify reports.
Date range
The date button at the top right sets the period for the whole page. You can choose Today, Yesterday, the last 7, 30, 90 or 365 days, the last month or year, a to-date range, or a custom range. The default is the last 30 days. Your tab and dates stay in the URL, so you can bookmark a view.
- Days are counted in UTC, so a single day can differ slightly from Shopify's figure for the same date.
- Data starts 17 August 2026. Earlier ranges are empty.
- Revenue and conversion data needs the "Read orders" permission. It starts from the moment you approve it and can't be backfilled.
Overview tab
The funnel
Four steps, each one a subset of the step before it.
| Metric | What it counts |
|---|---|
| Cart views | Every time the drawer was opened. Opening it 3 times counts as 3 views. |
| Total carts | How many carts the drawer served. Counted once per cart, however often it's reopened. |
| Initiated checkouts | Carts where the customer clicked a checkout button in the drawer. Includes the Checkout button and accelerated wallets like Shop Pay, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Only the first click per cart counts. |
| Converted carts | Carts that became a paid order. Each order counts once. |
Two captions add context:
- "2.77 times per cart" — cart views ÷ total carts. How often customers reopen the drawer.
- "30% Conversion rate" — converted carts ÷ total carts.
Abandoned carts and checkouts
- Abandoned carts — carts at least 24 hours old with no paid order, shown as a share of total carts.
- Abandoned checkouts — checkouts started at least 24 hours ago that didn't become an order, shown as a share of initiated checkouts.
Carts and checkouts under 24 hours old are still in progress, so they're left out of both counts.
Added revenue
Four cards, one per feature. Each shows:
- Revenue added — the value of the items that feature put into paid orders. Calculated as line price × quantity, minus any discounts on the line. Shipping and taxes aren't included.
- Orders — how many paid orders contained an item from that feature, and its share of all orders that came through the drawer.
| Card | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Cart Upsell | Upsell offers shown inside the drawer. |
| Empty cart upsell | Offers set to the Empty cart placement. |
| Order upsells | Order upsells your customers accepted. |
| Sticky cart | Items added from the sticky add-to-cart bar. |
Select View on any card to open its tab.
Assisted revenue
These features influence orders instead of adding products, so they have their own section.
- Subscription upsell → First order revenue — the value of items customers switched to a subscription with the drawer's Subscribe button, in their first paid order. Renewals aren't counted again.
- Subscription upsell → Orders with subscription — how many paid orders included a switched item.
- Spend tiers → Assisted revenue — the total value of orders where the cart reached at least one spend tier.
- Spend tiers → Orders reaching a milestone — how many orders crossed a tier threshold. This includes discount-only and visual tiers.
Daily chart
The bar chart plots total carts, initiated checkouts and converted carts for each day. Hover a day to see exact figures.
Upsells tab
| Metric | Definition |
|---|---|
| Impressions | Times an offer was seen. It must stay visible for at least 1 second, so cards that flash past while scrolling don't count. Counted once per offer per page. |
| Added | Items added to the cart from an offer, shown as a share of impressions. |
| Conversions | Each offer that contributed to a paid order counts one. An order with items from two offers counts once for each. Shown as a share of added. |
| Revenue added | Line price × quantity, minus discounts, for purchased upsell items. |
By offer lists each offer with its impressions, added, conversions, conversion rate (conversions ÷ impressions) and revenue. Expand a row to see which products sold through that offer. An Empty cart badge marks the empty-cart offer. A Deleted badge means the offer was removed or regenerated — its history is kept, so your totals stay correct.
By product rolls the same sales up across all offers, so you can see which products to promote next.
Order upsells tab
The same funnel for order upsells, plus a By order upsell table. An order upsell adds a product to the cart, so impressions, added, conversions and revenue added mean exactly what they do on the Upsells tab.
Sticky cart tab
| Metric | Definition |
|---|---|
| Impressions | Times the sticky bar was visible on a product page for at least 1 second. One per page view. |
| Added | Items that actually entered the cart. Clicks that only scroll to the product form don't count. |
| Conversions | Paid orders containing an item added from the sticky bar. |
| Revenue added | Line price × quantity, minus discounts, for those items. |
How the data is collected
The page combines two sources.
- Activity in the drawer — views, impressions, adds and checkout clicks are sent from the customer's browser in small batches, so your storefront stays fast. Each event has a unique ID, so nothing is counted twice. Bots are excluded, and the theme editor is ignored — previewing your drawer never affects your numbers.
- Orders — revenue comes from Shopify's order data, not the browser. Duplicate deliveries can't inflate it.
To match an order to the drawer, the app uses three independent signals, and any one is enough: a hidden property on items the app added, a hidden marker the drawer places on the cart, or the cart's token. This is why attribution still works for wallet checkouts. No customer personal data is collected.
Orders appear within seconds. If an order arrives before its cart data does, it's added to the funnel as soon as that data lands, including for past dates.
All amounts are shown in your store's currency. When a symbol is ambiguous, the currency code is shown next to it, for example $1,399.25 USD.
How this compares to Shopify Analytics
- Scope — this page counts carts and orders the drawer was part of. Shopify counts everything.
- Revenue — "Revenue added" is line revenue after discounts, without shipping or taxes.
- Refunds — revenue is recorded when the order is placed, so later refunds or edits aren't subtracted.
- Dates — days here are UTC. Shopify uses your store's timezone.
- View counts — some browsers block analytics scripts, so views and impressions are conservative. Order and revenue figures come from Shopify, so they're always complete.
Troubleshooting
Everything shows zero
Check that your date range is 17 August 2026 or later, and that the cart drawer is enabled and published in your theme.
Views look right, but revenue and conversions are empty
Open the app and approve the Read orders permission. Order data starts from the moment you approve it.
Conversions look higher than my order count
On the Upsells and Order upsells tabs, conversions are counted per offer, so one order can count for two offers. Converted carts on the Overview tab is the distinct order count.
A rate shows "—"
The rate is hidden when it can't be calculated, usually because the period has no impressions or carts yet. The counts next to it are still accurate.
A quick view on the Home page
The same four funnel metrics for the last 30 days appear on the app's Home page under Cart Drawer. Select View analytics to open the full page.
