Export your Back in Stock subscriber list (Essential Preorder app)
This article explains how to download a list of everyone who signed up for a "Notify me when back in stock" alert, and how to import notification requests from another list or app. It's for merchants who need their subscriber data for their own records, a marketing tool, or a store migration.
If you're setting up back-in-stock alerts for the first time, see Enable Back in Stock notifications in your store first.
Export your subscriber list
You can export your notification requests yourself. The app doesn't show the file in your browser. It emails you a secure download link instead.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Apps and open Essential Preorder.
- Go to Back in stock → Products & Notifications.
- Open Export notifications.
- Press Send export link. The button shows Generating... while the file is being prepared.
Once it's ready, you'll see a toast reading Download link sent. and a banner confirming Export ready, sent to the store email you picked under Send download link to (the app lists your store's registered emails, partly masked). The link expires in 1 hour, so open it soon after it arrives.

If you request another export too soon after the last one, you'll see: An export link was sent recently. Please wait a few minutes and try again. Wait a few minutes and try again. This is a cooldown, not an error with your data.
If the link doesn't arrive or you see Failed to send the export link. Please try again., retry once, then use the chat with real human support link in the same modal if it still fails.
What's in the export file
The file contains one row per notification request, including the product, variant, the customer's email, and its status (for example, whether it has been sent). Rows for requests that have already been sent include a sent date. Signup date for requests that haven't been sent yet isn't included in the file.
There's no built-in way to filter or export by date range, and there's no separate export per campaign or per product. The file always contains every notification request. To find a subset, open the file in a spreadsheet and filter by the product or variant column.
To see subscriber activity without exporting anything, turn on Email tracking in settings. With tracking on, each row in Products & Notifications shows the email status directly.
If your domain doesn't have HTTPS, you may see a warning that email tracking can't open links securely through your domain. Add an SSL certificate, or turn tracking off. Emails and links still work either way, but the app won't record link status.
Import notification requests from another list or app
If you're migrating from another back-in-stock tool, or you have a list of customers to add manually, you can import them.
- Go to Back in stock → Products & Notifications and open Import notifications.
- Select Download CSV template to get the correct file layout.
- Fill in the data in the columns (email, variant ID, etc.).
- Upload the completed file in the same window, under Upload your completed file below (CSV or Excel, up to 7 MB).
- You will see uploaded. Our team will process your import within 48 hours. Nothing appears in the list straight away.
- If you get stuck, use Contact support in the same window.
Use Need help? Contact support team via live chat or email in the same modal if you're not sure which fields apply to your data, for example, whether to use base language codes only, or how to fill in the Variant ID field for a product with no variants.
Imported notification requests have no delay. If the product's Shopify inventory is updated after the import, notifications go out immediately. Import while the product is still marked out of stock, or ask support to stage a large import for you if you need it timed around a restock.

Large migrations
If you're bringing over a large list from another app (thousands of rows) or need help mapping fields from an old export, contact support and ask them to help with the import. Mention the number of rows and whether the products are currently in or out of stock.
What the app can't do yet
| Request | Current state | Nearest workaround |
|---|---|---|
| Export or filter by date range | Not supported | Export the full file and filter it in a spreadsheet |
| Export a single campaign or product only | Not supported | Export the full file and filter by product or variant |
| Automatic API, webhook, Flow action or Zapier trigger for each request | Not available | Use the emailed export file for now |
| Notify the merchant when a customer clicks "Notify me" | Not available (only the customer is notified) | Check Products & Notifications with Email tracking on to see new requests |
| Scheduled or recurring exports | Not available | Request an export link each time you need one |
Still stuck?
If your export link doesn't arrive, an import needs staging, or you have a data question not covered here, chat with support from inside the app or email support@essential-apps.com.
