How do reward discount codes work? (Essential Loyalty app)

When a customer redeems points for a discount reward, the app creates a unique Shopify discount code for that customer.

Code format

  • The default format is LOY- followed by 8 random letters and numbers, for example LOY-A1B2C3D4.
  • You can set your own prefix for each reward. A prefix can use up to 20 letters, numbers, and dashes, for example VIP-.

Shopify Discounts list

The app creates one discount entry in Shopify for each reward, not one for each code. The individual codes are listed inside that reward's entry. Two different rewards appear as two separate entries. Use the reward name to find the entry, then look at its codes.

Good to know

  • Single use: each code can be used once. It is marked as used when it appears on a paid order.
  • Pending or cancelled orders: a code on an unpaid, cancelled, or test order is not marked as used.
  • Usage report: there is no report that lists every code with its order and sales. To check a specific code, search for it in Shopify orders.
  • Code not working? See the article "Why isn't my reward code working at checkout?" in this FAQ.
