How Views Are Counted (Essential Estimated Delivery Date app)

Essential Estimated Delivery Date uses a views-based pricing model. This article explains exactly what a view is, how views are generated on your store, and what does and doesn't count.

📌 The Short Version

  • Views are not unique visitors
  • A view is generated every time a delivery estimate widget loads on your storefront
  • One shopper can generate many views in a single visit
  • Preview mode and the Theme Customizer do not count
  • You are never charged extra for views over your plan limit
  • Views reset automatically at the end of your monthly cycle, based on the date your cycle started, not on the 1st of the calendar month

1️⃣ What Is a View?

A view is counted each time a delivery estimate widget needs to load on your store. It doesn't matter who the visitor is or whether they've seen the widget before — every load counts as one view.

📌 Note: In the app, views are shown as impressions (for example, "Current cycle impressions" on the Pricing plans page).

2️⃣ How Views Are Generated

Here are some common examples of what creates a view:

  • A shopper opens a product page with a delivery estimate → 1 view
  • The same shopper refreshes the page → 1 more view
  • They browse 5 different product pages that show the widget → 5 views
  • They add a product to cart and the cart shows a delivery estimate → 1 more view
  • They go to checkout and the checkout shows a delivery estimate → 1 more view
  • Two widgets are published on the same page → each widget that loads counts as a view

So a single shopper browsing a few products, then going to cart and checkout, can easily generate 10 or more views in one visit.

3️⃣ What Does NOT Count as a View

  • Testing widgets in Preview mode inside the app
  • Viewing your store in the Shopify Theme Customizer
  • Pages where no delivery estimate widget is shown

📌 Good to know: Browsing your own live storefront (outside Preview mode and the Theme Customizer) does count, just like any other visitor.

4️⃣ Why Views Aren't Unique Visitors

The app counts widget loads, not people. The system can't tell visitors apart, so every load — from a new shopper, a returning shopper, a bot or you — is counted the same way.

That's why your view count will usually be higher than your number of visitors in Shopify Analytics. This is expected.

5️⃣ Where to Check Your Views

  1. Open Essential Estimated Delivery Date

  2. Go to Pricing plans from the left-hand menu

  3. Check Current cycle impressions to see how many views you've used

6️⃣ When Do Views Reset?

Views reset automatically at the end of your monthly view cycle.

Your cycle is based on the date your current cycle started, not on the 1st of the calendar month. For example, if your cycle started on 12 September, it resets on 12 October.

  • You can see your cycle start and reset dates on the Pricing plans page
  • No manual action is required
  • View usage starts counting from zero for the new cycle

💡 Tips to Keep Views Under Control

  • Show delivery estimates only on pages where they help shoppers decide
  • Unpublish widgets you're no longer using
  • If several widgets can appear on the same page, check whether you need all of them
  • Check your usage on the Pricing plans page before a busy sales period
