Post Purchase Page Setup Guide

Learn how to set up and configure Post Purchase Page upsells on the Essential Upsell & Cross Sell app.

What is Post Purchase Page Upsell? ❓

Post Purchase Page upsells appear immediately after a customer completes their payment, before they reach the thank you page. This timing allows you to capture additional sales while the customer is still in a buying mindset and their payment information is securely stored by Shopify. Best Practice is to offer upsell products that complement the original purchase and use attractive discounts (15-30% typically perform well)

Setting Up Your Post Purchase Page 📈

Step 1: Enable Post Purchase in Shopify Settings

  1. Go to your Shopify Admin
  2. Navigate to Settings > Checkout
  3. Enable Essential Upsell as your post-purchase app

⚠️ Important: Only one post-purchase app can be active at a time. If you have other post-purchase apps installed, you’ll need to choose which one to use.


Step 2: Configure and Publish Your Post Purchase Campaign

  1. Open the Essential Upsell app
  2. Click Create offer
  3. Choose Post purchase page upsell
  4. Set up your offer:
    • Product Selection: Choose what products will trigger post-purchase page upsell when they are bought, and what products you want to offer
    • Discount and Shipping: Set a percentage or fixed amount discount and set free or paid shipping for additional offer items (offer items will be added to the original order and can be fulfilled together)
    • Downsell offer: you can add one additional post-purchase upsell if the customer declines the first or second offer
    • Publish the Campaign: Customize the design and publish the campaign

Step 4: You can change the Post Purchase Offer Button Colour

The button may be showing a different colour on the Offer preview, but it inherits your Checkout styling.

  1. From Shopify Admin, go to Settings
  2. Then go to the Checkout tab
  3. Press Customize
  4. Change the Button colour and save the changes


Step 4: Test Your Setup

Before going live, test your post-purchase flow:

  1. Place a test order using a supported payment method
  2. Complete the checkout process
  3. Verify that the post-purchase offer appears
  4. Test both accepting and declining the offer
