How to Set Up Volume Bundles (Essential Subscriptions app)
Volume bundles give customers a better price when they buy more. Each bundle is a pack size, such as 3 items, with an extra discount on top of the plan discount. Customers pick a bundle in the subscription widget, and the quantity and discount are added for them.
Bundles are set per campaign, on the Volume bundles tab.
For how the discount is applied in the cart and on renewals, see How the Volume Bundle Discount Works.
Step 1: Add bundles

- Open Campaigns in the app menu and open the campaign.
- Open the Volume bundles tab.
- Click Add volume bundle. The first click adds two bundles: a single item and a 2 pack. Click again to add more.
- Open each bundle and set it up (see below).
- Save the campaign, or click Publish.
In each bundle, set:
- Name: what customers see, for example "3 pack". The default is
{quantity}pack, where{quantity}is filled in with the pack size. Each bundle needs its own name. - Quantity: how many items the bundle adds to the cart. Each bundle needs a different quantity.
- Discount on top of the purchase option discount: No discount, Percentage off or Amount off per item. Percentage can be up to 100.
- Apply to all purchase options or Apply to selected purchase options. With selected, tick the plans the bundle works with. You can include the one-time purchase.
Drag the handle on a bundle card to reorder. The trash icon deletes a bundle.
A bundle with No discount still sets the quantity, but adds no extra discount. Use it for the single item, so customers can pick 1 or more.
Step 2: Place the bundles in the widget

On the Widget tab, open Layout. With bundles added, you get extra settings:
- Subscription header and Bundle header: the heading over your plans and the heading over the bundles. The bundle heading starts as "Choose quantity".
- Placement: where the bundles sit.
- Preselected: the bundle chosen when the page loads.
- Bundle layout: Pills shows bundle names only. Boxes with price also shows the price, crossed-out price, price per item and badge.
| Placement | What customers see |
|---|---|
| Above subscription options | The bundles sit above your plans. Picking a bundle shows only the plans that bundle works with. |
| Below subscription options | The same, with the bundles below your plans. |
| Inside subscription options | The bundles show inside the selected plan, and only the bundles for that plan. The bundle header is not used. Not available in the Minimal layout. |
| Show as subscription options | Every bundle and plan pair is its own option, for example "3 pack Monthly". Plans with no bundle are listed on their own. |
With Show as subscription options, the Subscription x bundle option names section lets you rename each pair, and Preselected picks which pair is chosen first.
Step 3: Set the bundle text

On the Widget tab, open Bundle options. These show in the Boxes with price layout.
- Price: Total price, Price per item or Both prices.
- Compared at price: where the crossed-out price shows, or None.
- Badge: per bundle. The default is "Save
{discount}", where{discount}is the bundle's own discount. It only shows on bundles with a discount. - Per item price: per bundle, when the price shows per item or both. The default is "
{item_price}each".
Click a bundle's name to edit its text. Apply to all copies the text to your other bundles.
Step 4: Style the bundles

On the Style tab:
- Bundles card: background, border, corner radius and shadow, for a bundle that is not selected and one that is.
- Bundles text: the bundle name.
- Bundles price (Boxes with price only): Price and Strike through price.
- The Badge card also styles bundle badges. The Description text card also styles the price per item.
The colour presets at the top of the tab apply to bundles too. With Show as subscription options, bundles use the same styling as your plans.
Step 5: Translate the bundle text
If your store sells in more than one language, open the Translations card on the Widget tab. The Volume bundles section has the Bundle header, each bundle's Name, Badge text and Per item price text, and the names of bundle and plan pairs. See Widget Wording, Translations and the Subscription Details Tooltip.
What the customer sees
- The customer picks a bundle and a plan. Prices in the widget include both discounts.
- The widget sets the quantity to the bundle's pack size.
- The customer clicks Add to cart. The bundle discount is applied in the cart and at checkout.
You don't need to create a discount yourself. See How the Volume Bundle Discount Works.
You can also start a campaign with bundles from a template: open the Bundles chip on the Pick a template page. See Start a Campaign from a Template.
